The Designer
A residential designer since 1977, Garnett's designs have been published in various magazines, including, Southern Living, Better Homes and Gardens, and Country Living. He has addressed issues regarding home design and urban design at various venues, including Harvard University and the National Association of Homebuilders.
"Essentially, all of our homes feature exteriors that are influenced by the traditional architecture of the past, " explaines Garnett. "The comfortable, well-proportioned residences built in many of our cities and towns from 1895 until 1940 provide inspirations for most of our designs."
In 1995 Garnett designed "The Most Romantic Home In America," built by TRADITIONAL HOME magazine in Kohler, Wisconsin. Two of Garnett and Associates' designs were featured at the 1997 National Association of Homebuilder's convention in Houston, Texas. Garnett was asked to design a Habitat for Humanity home in Princeton, NJ that required creating a home for a narrow lot while blending the design with the existing neighborhood. In 1998, the firm designed HOME magazine's show home that was built for the NAHB convention in Dallas, Texas. Also in 1998, Garnett collaborated with LifeStyle HomeDesign of Minneapolis, MN to design a Gothic-styled home built by COUNTRY HOME Magazine inside the Mall of America.
In 1997, he was inducted into the American Institute of Building Design's College of Fellows (FAIBD). He became one of the first design professionals to become and Accredited member of The Congress for the New Urbanism in 2009. His book, HOME PLAN DOCTOR, was published by Storey Publishing in December 2007.
